Cognitive Assessment

Our cognitive assessments provide a detailed understanding of how a person thinks, learns, and processes information, including areas such as memory, attention, and processing speed. This can help identify strengths, differences, and areas where support may be helpful.

About autism

Cognitive differences affect how we process information, remember things, and solve problems. These differences can shape experiences in education, work, and everyday life, often in ways that are not immediately obvious to others.

Many people with cognitive differences show a varied profile, with clear strengths in some areas and greater effort required in others. This uneven pattern can feel confusing, particularly when expectations are based on overall ability rather than specific differences.

Understanding your cognitive profile can help explain why some tasks feel easier while others take more time or energy. It also supports finding ways of working that make better use of your strengths.

Common Cognitive Experiences

  • Finding it difficult to remember verbal information, such as instructions or conversations
  • Processing information more slowly, particularly under time pressure
  • Needing to revisit written information to fully understand it
  • Finding it difficult to organise thoughts or express ideas clearly
  • Taking longer to complete tasks that involve multiple steps
  • Feeling mentally fatigued after sustained concentration
  • Difficulties with working memory (holding and using information at the same time)
  • Finding it hard to switch between tasks or ways of thinking
  • Difficulties with planning and breaking tasks into manageable steps
  • Noticing differences between verbal and visual thinking or processing

People we’ve worked with

Reflections and feedback from people our clinicians have supported through cognitive assessment.

"Our teenager's cognitive assessment revealed her processing speed differences. The school has been much more supportive since receiving the report."

Sarah & Rishi

School became more supportive
"It helped us understand that some of the behaviours we were seeing were linked to difficulties with language and understanding, rather than choices. That changed how we responded."

Demi

Better understanding
"The recommendations gave us clear ways to support learning, especially around using visuals and showing rather than just telling. It’s made things much more manageable day to day."
